Snorkelling in Swaraj Dweep Island, Andaman
Snorkelling is one of the most accessible and enjoyable activities for anyone visiting Havelock Island, now known as Swaraj Dweep.
One of the best things about snorkelling here is that the coral reef begins at a depth of less than one meter in some areas. If you know how to swim, you may be able to explore more of the underwater surroundings independently, subject to local safety guidelines.
Snorkelling equipment can be rented or arranged locally. Visitors who require assistance can opt for a guided snorkelling service, where trained professionals can help with equipment, safety instructions, and the overall experience.
Elephant Beach is one of the most popular snorkelling destinations on Havelock Island. Some scuba diving resorts and activity providers also offer snorkelling experiences that visitors can book separately.
Things to Know While Snorkelling
Keep Your Snorkelling Gear Clean
Make sure your snorkelling equipment is clean and in good condition before entering the water.
Wash the Gear Before Using It
Rinse your mask, snorkel, and other equipment with clean water before use.
You Can Use Fins While Snorkelling
Fins can make it easier to move through the water and explore the underwater surroundings. Use them only as recommended by your guide or activity provider.
Wear Appropriate Swimwear
Wear comfortable swimming attire that allows you to move freely and enjoy the activity safely.
Do Not Touch Coral or Marine Life
Do not touch corals, marine animals, or anything underwater that looks attractive. Some marine organisms can be dangerous, while touching or standing on coral can cause serious damage to the reef ecosystem.
Non-Swimmers Should Follow Safety Instructions
Non-swimmers should follow the instructions provided by the activity staff. If a life ring or other flotation equipment is provided, use it as directed while in the water.
